What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

House of Praise Beliefs

These beliefs are taken from the Bible, not tradition or human reasoning.  As a Church, House of Praise  holds the following biblical  truths as  core beliefs. All of our teaching and church activities are rooted in and flows out of these biblical truths.

Jesus Christ is Our Savior

It's all about Jesus.  He was born of a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit, fully God and fully man.
He suffered and died for our sins.  He rose from the dead and is seated, alive at the right hand of the Father in heaven.

The Trinity

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct but indivisible persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

The Bible

The Bible is the eternal, inspired Word of God. It was established before the foundations of the world, then written by the hands of men as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit, complete in 66 separate books telling the story of God's relationship to humanity.

Salvation

Salvation is by God's grace (unearned favor, like a gift) alone. It received by  through repentance and faith in Jesus. This is the only way to heaven and Heaven can not be earned through good works.

Baptism

By biblical definition, baptism is an immersion in water.  Baptism is not necessary for salvation but one of the first acts of discipleship after deciding to follow Jesus.  A person should be a follower of Jesus who has experienced salvation first to be baptized.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity.  He indwells the believer at the moment of salvation. There is also an additional experience of greater surrender to the Holy Spirit as outlined in the New Testament.   The Holy Spirit is active in the church today performing miracles and speaking to His people.

The Local Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Scripture is clear that ALL followers of Jesus should be part of a local church.  All believers in the Bible were in a local church.

Eternity, Heaven & Hell

All human are created with an eternal soul that will live beyond this life. Where that soul resides after death is determined by whether Jesus is our personal Savior or not. There is a literal Heaven and a literal Hell where that soul will reside.

The Devil

The reality of the devil or satan was taught by Jesus.  The devil is the fallen angel Lucifer who fights against the followers of Christ until his eternal judgement as outlined in the Bible.

The Gospel

Gospel means good news. The bad news is, We are all sinners because sin is simply disobedience to God.  We have all disobeyed Him. The good news is we can also be forgiven the moment we repent.  Jesus paid the price for our forgiveness!
