Deck the Halls | House of Praise

Dec 7, 2025    Pastor Lon Dean

Deck the Halls (with boughs of holly) was made famous in a 19th-century Christmas Carol, but it can have a deeper meaning for us today. In Old English, Deck means to adorn or decorate. The Hall was the central meeting, just like a celebration hall today. In Celtic and Norse winter solstice celebrations, they used holly and evergreens to decorate.

Today, we say deck the halls to refer to decorating for Christmas.
